Non-believers wrote the verse like this:

“Punish the unbeliever with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies” 22:19

Non-believers believe the Qur’an is full of evil and oppression and promotes terrorism. This is because they do not understand the Qur’an’s context as they read like they do with the bible. I recently received a question in my WhatsApp inbox “My Muslim brother, you claim Islam is a religion of peace, how do you answer this?” He sent me a list of Qur’anic verses which he and others believe the Qur’an is evil.

This article is my answer to the Christian friend and I hope it shall be helpful to Muslim brothers and sister who encounter the same questions.

The real text of the translation of that verse (Qur’an 22:19) is as follows:

But as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them; boiling fluid will be poured down their heads.

Quran 22:19 to 22 [talks about torment in Hell, and nothing about evils acts of Muslims]

The bible has also spoken about hell and its torment. I wonder when the Qur’an talks about the same thing, it becomes evil…why?

Let’s read together from 19 to 22

19 “But as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them, boiling fluid will be poured down their heads.”

20 “Whereby that which is in their bellies; and their skins too, will be melted;”

21 “And for them are hooked rods of iron.”

22 “Whenever, in their anguish, they would go forth from thence they are driven back therein and (it is said unto them): Taste the doom of burning”.

These are descriptions of Hell and God has revealed this information so that we may fear Him and desist from evil acts. If you consider the fact that so many in this world commit heinous crimes and are never brought to justice, it becomes imperative that God, who is Just, will make these criminals taste some of the pain and suffering that they brought upon other people.

Almost all religions have a concept of hell just as there can be no freedom without a few prisons, no pleasure without pain, and no eternal bliss without eternal damnation for some. And if you are a Christian you should believe the same thing:

In Matthew 10:28, Gehenna (Greek, but originally from a Hebrew name) – translated “Hell” all 12 times in KJV: “It is the permanent place for destruction of the “… soul and body …”

In Mark 9:45, he translated: “It is a place of “… fire that never shall be quenched”

In most of the references, it is clear from the context that those who enter Gehenna do so in their bodies, not merely as bodiless souls.

For this to happen, it must occur after the resurrection of the damned at the great white throne of judgment. Therefore, Gehenna is the Lake of Fire described in Revelation 19 and 20. It is presently uninhabited, but the Beast and the False Prophet will be cast into it at the end of the tribulation (Revelation 19:20). One thousand years later, Satan will be cast into it (Rev 20:10) and will be followed shortly by the lost people of all previous time periods (Revelation 20:15). They will all enter Gehenna together, in there resurrected bodies, where they will remain in torment for all eternity.”
